Released in late 1978, this was the first official retrospective of Paul McCartney's post-Beatles decade. It serves as a masterclass in 70s pop-rock songwriting, collecting twelve tracks that defined the era, including the Bond theme "Live and Let Die" and the then-best-selling UK single of all time, "Mull of Kintyre." The album was a massive commercial success, peaking at #5 in the UK and remaining on the charts for over 30 weeks.
Additional Features: The cover art is famous for its "Vivienne" Art Deco statue (by Demètre Chiparus), which was famously flown to Switzerland and photographed in the snow specifically for this project. Unique to this UK First Pressing: This copy features the original silver and blue MPL/Parlophone labels. In 2026, collectors highly prize these original pressings for their superior analog mastering compared to later digital remasters. The album originally included a double-sided heavy-stock inner sleeve and a large fold-out poster.
Condition
Vinyl: Graded EX (Excellent). The custom labels are remarkably clean with no "spindle trails" or center-hole wear, indicating very light use. The vinyl surface retains a deep, black-mirror finish; under bright light, there are no visible "paper scuffs" from the inner sleeve, which is rare for a 48-year-old pop record.
Cover: Pictured with sticker 3/70 on the poly-sleeve. The sleeve is a high-gloss finish; it shows a very faint "ring wear" halo at the top of the blue sky area, which is almost universal for this title. The spine is perfectly square and the text "WINGS GREATEST PCTC 256" is fully legible with no crushing.
