Sheep Farming in Barnet is the debut studio album by Toyah, originally released in 1979 on Safari Records. It stands as a key early document of the UK post‑punk / new wave movement, blending theatrical vocals, angular guitars, and stark, art‑school aesthetics.

Fronted by Toyah Willcox, the album reflects the band’s origins in the late‑1970s punk scene, with a raw, confrontational sound that later evolved into more polished new wave pop. Tracks such as Victims of the Riddle, Race Through Space, and Our Movie highlight the band’s tense, dramatic style and Toyah’s distinctive vocal delivery.

The striking sleeve design — featuring Toyah against a minimalist blue sky with spherical forms — has become an iconic image of early British new wave.
