Stranger in the City is the debut studio album by John Miles, released in 1976 on Decca Records. The album introduced Miles as a powerful vocalist and songwriter, blending art rock, progressive pop, and orchestral rock with a strong cinematic feel.

The record is best known for the epic track Music, which became an international hit and remains Miles’ signature song. Other notable tracks include Stranger in the City, Slow Down, Stand Up and Give Me a Reason, Time, and Remember Yesterday. The album’s arrangements are expansive, combining rock instrumentation with sweeping string sections.

Production was handled by Rupert Holmes, giving the album a polished yet dramatic sound that fits well within the mid‑1970s British rock landscape.
