Hara-Kiri – Issue No.122 (November 1971), an original copy of the infamous French satirical magazine known for its provocative, irreverent and often controversial humour. Hara-Kiri, subtitled “journal bête et méchant” (“stupid and nasty newspaper”), was the forerunner to Charlie Hebdo and is a cornerstone publication in European counterculture history.


This issue features one of Hara-Kiri’s most iconic and striking covers — a parody of the Nativity scene. The artwork shows stylised figures resembling Joseph and Mary praying beside a premature baby placed inside a hospital incubator-like setup, surrounded by straw beneath a large golden star. The deliberately absurd and shocking imagery reflects Hara-Kiri's characteristic use of dark satire to comment on religion, society and media.
