This 1977 release of Cruel Passion represents a significant entry in the 18th century period drama and sexploitation genres based on the 1791 novel Justine by the Marquis De Sade. Starring a young Koo Stark in the titular role of Justine alongside Lydia Lisle as her sister Juliette, the film explores the starkly different paths the two women take after being cast out of their convent following the death of their parents.

Directed by Chris Boger and notable for being the first feature film credit for future Oscar winning cinematographer Roger Deakins, this British production captures the dark Sadean philosophy of virtue being punished while vice is rewarded. The narrative follows Justine as she maintains her chaste innocence despite a perilous journey through a depraved world of highwaymen and sadistic clergy while Juliette thrives by embracing the decadence of a high class London brothel run by Madame Laronde.

This Nucleus Films DVD edition from the Naughty label is presented uncut and features the infamous cover art highlighting the film's reputation as a cult classic for collectors of Eurocult and vintage adult cinema.

With its blend of religious imagery, gothic dream sequences, and scandalous themes, this title remains a provocative piece of cinema history that reflects the transgressive spirit of late seventies exploitation film.
